SteamOS: Autologin into steam
This is part of a series of posts where I put down what I did while playing around with SteamOS.
[][2]Steams Big Picture splash screen In my installation of Ye Olde SteamOSe there was no auto login configured, but I think it would be best if a console automatically started into the gaming interface. So I checked the login managers (lightdm) configuration and found the parts that needed changing:

SteamOS: Make screenshots from the console
This is part of a series of posts where I put down what I did while playing around with SteamOS.
[][2]Screenshot settings While ingame you can make screenshots by pressing the big xbox-button and the right trigger simultaneously. SteamOS: Change Hostname
This is part of a series of posts where I put down what I did while playing around with SteamOS.
I wanted to change the hostname of the system, because my router resolves the hostnames quite nicely. This machine was supposed to be called „art„. That is quite simple to achieve by editing to files:
Change to a local terminal via Ctrl+Alt+F1 (get back to the UI via Ctrl+Alt+F7.) SSH isn’t that useful because we will be restarting the network at the end, disconnecting the SSH session.

SteamOS: Activate remote console login (ssh)
This is part of a series of posts where I put down what I did while playing around with SteamOS.
To be able to do some changes, it is convenient to have network access to the SteamMachine. Linux usually solves this via SSH. If you aren’t in a closed network behind a router, you might want to use better passwords than the username itself. And if you are in a secure network, it still doesn’t hurt.

As soon as I got back from my vacation I needed to try out Steams Linux based OS that runs on their new SteamMachines. Everybody is supposed to be able to build their own SteamMachine, when this leaves beta. But you can try it out already, if you aren’t afraid and have some spare hardware lying around (or want to use Ye Olde SteamOSe on VirtualBox or VMWare.
